The challenge

  • Sensor readings from equipment needed to reach a central system reliably, including over imperfect connectivity.

The approach

  • Designed the full path from sensors and an edge gateway through MQTT to cloud connectivity.
  • Used local buffering at the edge so data was not lost during connectivity gaps.
  • Built dashboards and alerting focused on what operators needed to act on.

  • Embedded firmware on ARM devices collecting and buffering sensor data.
  • MQTT-based messaging with Azure IoT for cloud connectivity.
  • A React dashboard with alerts for monitoring equipment status.

Outcome

  • Sensor data reached the cloud reliably, including across connectivity interruptions.
  • Operators gained a single view of equipment status with alerts.
  • The architecture spanned edge and cloud as a coherent, maintainable system.
