SAP and ArcGIS Asset Integration

Connected enterprise equipment records with geospatial asset data.

Transport and asset managementAnonymised
Architecture diagram connecting SAP OData equipment records with ArcGIS geospatial asset layers.

The challenge

  • Equipment and functional-location hierarchies lived in SAP, while spatial asset layers lived in ArcGIS, with no shared view.
  • The two sources did not always agree, so a reliable reconciliation was needed.
  • Data had to be extracted and processed without disrupting the source systems.

The approach

  • Assessed the SAP OData services and ArcGIS REST layers, including permissions and data quality.
  • Built extraction and processing to bring equipment, functional-location and spatial data into a common shape.
  • Defined reconciliation rules to identify and surface mismatches.

The solution

  • Integration between SAP OData equipment and functional-location hierarchies and ArcGIS asset layers.
  • Python-based processing of JSON and CSV data with documented transformations.
  • A reconciled, mapped view linking enterprise records to their spatial location.

Outcome

  • Enterprise equipment data and geospatial asset data could be viewed together.
  • Mismatches between sources were surfaced rather than hidden.
  • The integration was documented so it could be maintained after handover.

Technologies

  • SAP OData
  • ArcGIS REST
  • Python
  • JSON/CSV processing
